Theodore ‘Ted’ Allan Block, 83, Kansas City, KS passed away on September 17, 2018. Ted was born July 13, 1935 in Los Angeles, California to Arlena and John Block. He graduated from Alhambra (CA) High School in 1953.

Ted served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia from 1957 to 1959.  After his mission he served as a worker in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. In 1960, he joined the US Army and served as a medic at Ft. Ord, CA being honorably discharged in 1962.

Ted married Carolyn Derrington, his wife of 53 years, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on January 8, 1965. Moving from California in 1974, Ted and Carolyn have since made their home in Kansas City, Kansas where they raised their 4 children. Not having the opportunity to attend college himself, he strongly encouraged his children to pursue higher education.

Ted became an active and enthusiastic supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Woodbadge beads and serving as Scoutmaster and in other roles as a volunteer and father of 2 Eagle Scouts. Ted was an active member of his church, serving in many capacities over the years.

Ted is survived by his wife, Carolyn, children David Block, Mark (Jennifer) Block, Karen (Maggie) Jackson and Ryan (Allison) Block, grandchildren Todd (Crystal), Sterling, Emily, Annie, Gretchen and Cameron, and a great-grandson Merrick.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 22 from 9:30-10:30 am followed by a funeral service at 11 am at the LDS Chapel at 8616 Haskell Avenue, Kansas City, KS.

Interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
