In Loving Memory of
Margie Jean Boyer
1948 - 2018
Margie Jean Boyer, 70, of Gardner, KS, went home to be with her savior on September 29, 2018. A visitation will be held at 10 AM at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, in Lenexa, KS. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
Margie was born May 16, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Roy and Addie (Lundquist) Hammar. She was the middle child of 5. The family moved to Shawnee Mission, KS, when Margie was very young. They attended Hillcrest Covenant Church, where she would later become a member, be baptized, and confirmed. More recently, Margie became a member at Olathe Covenant Church. She was very proud to share her Swedish ancestry.
Margie loved sports, especially softball, all her life….. well, perhaps until that fateful day in 1977, when she hit a line drive at her unsuspecting 11 year old daughter (who was trying to strike her Mom out) and knocked her out briefly. She preferred being a spectator only after that!
Margie’s first love was, of course, Elvis, and she will always have a special spot in her heart for George Brett, but she married a Shawnee Mission West High School flame, and along came her 2 kids.
Margie was a fully devoted and loving Mom, the most patient, caring, compassionate, giving, “push-over”, perhaps in history! She was selfless and often compared to angels and saints, not just by her kids, but friends and family as well. Her light shone brightly and she inspired many, as she always will.
After working part-time at JC Penney Credit Office out of necessity, Margie turned it into a career. Over her more than 30 years with the company, she brought her best to the Customer Service Department every day. Her favorite position within the company was being a Trainer. She was a spectacular teacher! After the Credit Office moved, she continued to work for Alliance Data until she decided to take some time off to completely spoil her Grandchildren. She later returned to work in Customer Service for several more years before retiring and becoming a full-time Grandma.
Margie is now blessed to be re-united with her previously deceased parent, Roy and Addie, her step-mother, Eysail, her sister, Barbara, and many other dear family members and friends.
Margie is survived by her son, Bill and his wife, Valerie; her daughter, Carol and her husband, Russell; her grandchildren, Brooke, Jenna, and Anna; her brother, Paul; her sister, Joyce; her sister, Eileen and her husband, Steve; as well as a very large extended family whom she loved very dearly and was very proud of.
Margie felt very grateful and blessed every day of her life, regardless of the many challenges she faced along the way.
While the family is heartbroken at our loss, we would like to extend a special thanks to Davita Dialysis of Lenexa and of Gardner, KS, as well as Dr. De Sai and Dr. Shumaker of Nephrology Associates, who all took extra special care of Margie and her kidneys. We are also grateful for all the medical specialists, family, and friends who helped her manage her increasingly complicated health challenges.
Please share special memories you may have of our one-of-a-kind, precious Margie, Mom, Guno, Grandma,….disciple, and friend.
