Shirley M. Kuestersteffen , Age: 86
March 18, 1927 -- December 23, 2013

Shirley M. Kuestersteffen, dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 86, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away suddenly, Monday December 23, 2013 at her home. Shirley was born March 18, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked at Catholic Charities for 25+ years and was a co-founder of the annual Catholic Charities Snow Ball. Her family was her life. She loved entertaining her family and friends whether it was at their Gardner Lake house or at her home. She loved KU Basketball, the Royals and pretty much any sport. She loved her trips to the casino! Her home was always a flurry of activities, with kids and grandchildren coming and going. She would always feed everyone, whether it was sharing her dinner with you, or she would whip up something from what was in the fridge, or even make you a waffle, if that’s what you wanted! She looked forward to every visit from friends and family far and near; she would fuss over them for their entire stay, and cry when they left. She was cherished by her family, and will be greatly missed. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Joseph C. Kuestersteffen. Her much-loved children; John T. Kuestersteffen, partner Tim Lambert of Merriam, Kansas, Mary Ann Kuestersteffen of Shawnee, Kansas, Jeanne (Kevin) Boyer of Lenexa, Kansas, Lisa Florez-Lloyd of Arlington, Texas. Her grandchildren; Alexandra Kuestersteffen, Kyle (Becca) Kuestersteffen, Jeremy Adkins, Julie Adkins, Christopher (Rachel) Lloyd, Thomas Lloyd, Michael Lloyd, Phillip Lloyd and Aaron Florez. Her great-grandchildren; Kane Kuestersteffen, Knox Kuestersteffen, Amelia Lloyd, Elicya Florez, Austin Medrano and Jolene Florez. Her sister, Virginia Lloyd of Arlington, Texas, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Frances Eisenhauer, her son Carlos Florez, brother Jack Eisenhauer and nephew Gregg Eisenhauer. There will be a rosary at 9:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 W. 75th Street, Shawnee, Kansas. Visitation will follow the rosary and the funeral mass will start at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 30th, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Catholic Charities or the charity of your choice.

Joe, John, Jeanne and Maryann, My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of loss. May all your memories help comfort you at this sad time. Shirley was an amazing lady full of love and joy. I'm honored that i got to spend soo many good times with her the last several years. At a family gathering or having fun at the casino, her smiling eyes, zest for life and smile were a comfort. I once asked her, how do i become part of the family, she hugged me and told me i already was. :) i'll never forgot that day in Jeanne's kitchen. Also i'm so glad Kittie and i took her up on an adventure a few years back. We rode the bus with her and Joe to the Casino. We got paid for going, had a good free lunch and a fun day full of laughs and smiles. Shirley will be missed by soo many of us, who she touched our lives just by being her. With my deepest sympathy, Janell Green

I am so sorry to hear of the sudden loss of your mother. My heart is with you during this time of sorrow. May the peace that comes from your wonderful memories comfort you now and in the future. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon her.

Even though, with her advanced age, we knew this would happen at some time, she has been so full of life that it didn't seem possible. I think Shirley's strength and willingness to share her home have inspired me all through my life. In my opinion, she was always able to love those who had difficulty loving themselves, and we're all better for the experience. She rejoiced in every success and prayed us through every dilemma. I have many wonderful memories to treasure -- especially her infectious laugh!

Shirley and all of the Kuestersteffens have been so much a part of our lives that they were family to us. Shirley has shown so much love and care over our lives it was like she was my second mother, aunt and godmother rolled into one. She always remembered to check in on me especially after my mom passed and was so concerned for all of us. I love her and will miss her but take comfort because I know heaven has gained another star.

Growing up in a neighborhood of children, Shirley & Joe always made us feel welcome in their home. One of my best memories of Shirley is about a year ago. We all went to the boat and spent the night. I feel like I lost my mom again. To the family; my love to all of you! She will be missed by everyone.

Dear Joe: I saw Shirley's obit in the paper shortly after her death and I just wanted you to know that an old friend thought of you both with love and fond rememberances. So happy to see that you had a family together. We all had such good times at Bendix and I have never forgotten them. Take care of yourself. Mary Frances.
