Billy Joe Duncan, 79, Mercer, MO., passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010 at North Kansas City Hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones. Mr. Duncan was born on September 28, 1930, in Princeton, MO, the son of James Howard Duncan and Ruth Jane (Moore) Duncan. Billy attended and graduated Manual High School in Kansas City, MO. Following graduation he worked at the Board of Trade, then Darby Corporation and was a member of Boilermakers Local Union 83. Following the close of Darby Corporation he worked for the Kansas City Kansas Housing Authority, from which he retired in 1995. Billy married his beloved wife, Gloria L. Duncan on April 1, 1950, in Kansas City, MO. Bill and Gloria were blessed with a daughter and three sons. Together they lived in Kansas City, KS, until retirement and then moved to Mercer, MO., where Bill loved hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting with his sons and grandchildren. Bill loved attending livestock and farm auctions with his dear cousin and best buddy Charles Hartley. Bill and Gloria enjoyed 60 years of marriage and celebrated with family earlier this year. Their retirement years were spent traveling with Charles and his wife Lois, in addition, with his devoted niece Terrie Hamen and her husband Bruce. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth, sister Mary Jane and a grandson Chaz. Billy’s survivors include his wife Gloria (Mickey), four children: Connie Hill (Alan) of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Mike Duncan (Pat) of Olathe, KS, Kevin Duncan (Amy) of Springhill, KS, and Brian Duncan (Shirl) of Kansas City, KS; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Open Door Baptist Church with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery, both in Kansas City, KS. Family and friends may visit from 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Porter Funeral Home 1835 Minnesota Ave, KC, KS.
