Thelma Howard Stanley was born September 11, 1913 in Montevideo, Uruguay where her father managed a meat packaging plant for Swift. When she was 2 ½ the family moved back to their home in Kansas City, Kansas, where she grew up and attended Wyandotte High School. While attending Wyandotte, she met and fell in love with Guy Stanley. They eloped in 1935 and had a devoted marriage for 72 years.
Together they raised four children, started several businesses, and traveled the world. They loved sharing their summer home with family and friends at Lake of the Ozarks. Thelma had a fulfilling life with a big family, wonderful friends, and a husband who was always up for adventure. She loved her family and taught them to celebrate each day and to live life to the fullest. Thelma created a home where her family always felt welcome, she was a great hostess. Thelma was an elegant lady and special mom who taught us about a generation and lifestyle which is gone forever.
Survivors include her children, Guy Stanley III, Stanley, KS; Ron Stanley, Bonner Springs, KS; Sharon and Bob Moore, San Luis Obispo CA; Janie Reilly, Coral Gables, Fl; brother, Bud Howard and wife Nyla Howard, Overland Park, Ks.; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Guy, Ron, Sharon, and Janie,
I am very sorry for the loss of your Mother. I first met your parents when Sharon invited us to swim at the pool behind the house on Indian Lane. I was very impressed with the recreation room that was painted like a cruise ship deck! I also remember the house on 69th St. where we swam and sunbathed to get ready (burned!) for the prom in 1966!
Our group had many happy times swimming, boating and skiing at the lake; I can picture Thelma, on the dock with her hands on her hips, calling to us to "put on the life belts"! I think those were the best times Ive ever had at the Lake.
One winter Sharon invited us to go "snow skiing" in the Ozarks. I ran into a tree and cut my head. Thelma had to take me in to Camdenton for stitches. She was a real trouper!
We were very lucky to have such caring parents who were willing to do so many things to enrich our lives. I will always be grateful to Guy and Thelma. May they rest in peace.

Mrs. Stanley was a sweet, sweet person. Janie and I went all through school together and we lived next door to the family when I was in high school. I remember her as always pleasant and gracious. My condolences to the family. She lived a full life but its never easy to say goodbye. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
