Jun 22, 1930---Aug 21, 2025

Paul was born June 22, 1930 in Oklahoma City, OK. His parents were Jake and

Mildred. He spent most of his adult life as a mechanic, mostly a Volkswagen mechanic. He loved anything that used  oil and ran with gears. He achieved master mechanic status. He was an avid, life-long motorcycle rider. He was called a “Long-rider”, which he was very proud to say. He also liked to tell people that he had driven a

quarter-of-a-million miles on bikes. One of his favorite annual trips was to travel to Ruidoso, N.M. every September for the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally. Paul not only loved riding bikes, but he built and rode a tricycle. He also started a local chapter/club for trikers.

Paul, along with his wife, Shirley raised 3 children across 2 states. They started out in Burlingame, Tx, then Wichita, Ks, and finally Overland Park Ks, where they lived for over 58 years in the same house. Both mom and dad were active, long-time members of Countryside Christian Church.

Paul was involved in numerous organizations: Shriners, Escorts, VW club, Masonic lodge for which he served a term as Worshipful Master (Chief Officer), member of the GWTA (Goldwing touring association), and life-long member of AMA (American Motorcycle Association).

He is preceded by his wife, Shirley, and survived by their children, Rodney, Phyllis, and Curtis. He has three grandchildren, Travis, Brice, and Robyn by his daughter and son-in-law. He has two more grandchildren by his oldest son Rodney and his wife, Jeremiah and Tiffany, He also has two great grandchildren, Cash and Jewel.

Paul did not know a stranger. He had friends everywhere he went…. the grocery store, coffee shop, auto parts store, waiting in a line, or restaurant. He knew someone everywhere, and if he didn’t he’d talk to a stranger passing by and make friends

He is probably best known for the stories he could tell of his adventures throughout his life. He loved to recount his time in the army, VW stories, trips he took on the motorcycle (especially the trip to California with Shirley), his beloved cat, Chloe, and telling jokes. He loved a good joke and loved to repeat it to anyone who would listen.

Our dad lived a full, adventurous, interesting life. He will be greatly missed by family and remembered by many.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Countryside Christian Church, 6101 Nall Avenue, Mission, Kansas 66202.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Humane Society or the Shiners Organization.
