Brian Douglas Kershner, the universe’s coolest and most awesome dad, was born in Springfield, Missouri, on June 21, 1973, to Douglas Kershner and Connie Joan Perriman. His siblings were Tommy, Tammy, and Lisa Kershner. Brian was very bright and excelled in school from his graduation at Parkview High School all the way through the completion of his bachelor’s in finance at Missouri State University.
In April 1999, Brian, his long-time girlfriend Bonnie Squires, and their beloved cocker spaniel Bailey moved to the Kansas City area, where he began his eighteen-year long career at State Street. While at State Street, he also earned his MBA from Baker University. On May 1, 2001, Brian and Bonnie married. During this time, Brian and Bonnie began to attend Lenexa Baptist Church. Although Brian was initially unreceptive to the Gospel, the Spirit of God softened his heart. He began a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ after Pastor Steve Dighton led him in a prayer over twenty years ago. On February 3, 2003, Pastor Steve baptized Brian and Bonnie. They were faithful members of Lenexa Baptist for many years.
On July 11, 2003, Brian and Bonnie welcomed Jonathan, their first child. Nadia, their second child, was born on November 7, 2005. Lastly, Addison, their third child, was born on March 12, 2009. They also adopted two dogs, Eden and Paden, in 2015 and 2017, respectively. In 2018, shortly after ending his career at State Street, Brian began to work part-time on the Lenexa Baptist Church facilities team. Brian had a servant’s heart and had an incredible impact on the church’s various ministries all while serving behind the scenes.
During those five years serving at the church, Brian was a mentor to the youths he worked with. He told great stories, gave them sound advice, and cared deeply about them.
In July 2020, Brian also began working at Healthcare Solutions as a pharmacy consultant
and trainer with one of his closest friends, Jeff Goss. Although the job often required long hours and frequent trips, Brian enjoyed traveling the Midwest to meet and work with new people. Brian’s wit and easy-going personality allowed him to excel wherever he went and to endear himself to those he worked with.
Despite the many struggles he endured in his personal and family life, Brian worked
tirelessly every day to provide for his family. He was always present for his kids. He taught their Sunday school classes, coached their basketball teams, taught them how to drive, and raised them to know and love Christ as he did. He invested heavily in his children by homeschooling them all the way through high school and then seeking to pay for their college educations despite their objections. Brian sacrificed everything for his kids. He gave them everything he had, and then he gave more.
On September 4, 2026, Brian passed away at his home in Olathe, Kansas. He is now in Heaven with Jesus, his Creator. He was preceded in death by his beloved dog Bailey and his mother Connie. Brian is survived by his siblings, Tommy, Tammy, and Lisa; by his father, Douglas; by the mother of his children, Bonnie; by his children, Jonathan, Nadia, and Addison; and by his dogs, Eden and Paden. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and dogs. He was a wonderful man and an incredible father. Brian will be greatly missed. He was the best dad ever.
A visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Memorial Services following at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, at Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 W. 87th St. Lenexa, KS 66219.
