Sep 12, 1933---Feb 06, 2026

Charles Raiman “Charlie” Hopkins, 92, passed away on Friday, February 6th, after a short illness. Born September 12, 1933, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Raiman and Ruth (McCluskey) Hopkins, Charlie built a life grounded in family, friendship, and steady dedication.

He graduated from Rosedale High School in 1951 and from Emporia State University in 1958 with a degree in Business and Accounting. From 1954 to 1956, he served in the U.S. Army Finance Corps. He married Caroline (Soule) Hopkins on November 23, 1958. His professional career included roles with Arthur Andersen, Ford, and Glasco Electric, and he retired in 1995 as President of Missouri Valley Electric Co. after 25 years of leadership.

Charlie enjoyed a lifetime of golf, tennis, bridge, and poker—celebrating what he liked to call his “fifth or sixth” hole‑in‑one at age 90. He and Caroline treasured more than 25 years of memories at their Lake of the Ozarks timeshare, sharing it generously with family and friends. He was a devoted supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sports, always present and always cheering.

In his later years, Charlie lived independently at the Santa Marta Retirement Community, where he found a warm circle of friends and a culture of care that meant the world to him and to his family. After Caroline’s passing, the Santa Marta community embraced him and ensured he remained connected and involved. He filled his days with bridge and poker (including a couple of poker groups he started himself), ping pong (until his walker complicated his backhand), daily walks to reach his 3,000‑step goal, tracking and reporting his vitals, reading spy and action novels, attending dinner theater, and sharing meals and milestones with those around him. Watching him continue to make new friends in his late 80s was inspiring.

In his final days, all of his grandchildren were able to come to town to say goodbye, and even his great‑grandson made an appearance. The family is deeply grateful to the friends and relatives who stayed connected with him after Caroline’s passing, and to the Santa Marta community for the companionship and support they provided.

Charlie lived a good 92 years—full of routine, humor, connection, and joy. He will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Caroline Hopkins. Survivors include his children: Carl (Terri) Hopkins, Craig Hopkins, and Cheryl Coltvet (Tim); granddaughters Kristen Peterson (Drew), Andrea Fehlman (Kaleb), Sophie Coltvet, and Tess Coltvet; and great‑grandson Noah Fehlman.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 16th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection Overland Park (formerly Valley View United Methodist Church), 8412 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS 66212. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will be held at the church, and graveside services will take place at 2:45 p.m. at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.

Church Friend ,Topeka ,Kansas

We first met Charlie and Caroline in 1967 when Merris became Senior Pastor at Valley View Church. However, Merris knew Caroline and her parents Howard and Olive Soule at Quayle Memorial Church in KCK. The Hopkins family were a significant part of church life. Yes, gone from our sight but NOT from our memories. Our sympathy to the family
