With deepest sorrow, we announce that Clayton Edwin Coatney, age 28, our most beloved son, brother and friend, passed away on Tuesday August 24, 2021 while at home. Clay was born in Overland Park, KS to Brian (Tammy) Coatney, and Heidi (Keith) Neuenswander on May 12, 1993. Clay lived his entire life in Overland Park, KS.
In Clay’s early grade school years, he was asked to describe himself for a school project. In Clay’s own words, he saw himself as someone who was “Fun and Gentle.” Little did we know at that young age, how true these words would describe Clay and his unbelievably kind, loving and tender heart. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for a friend, and would go to any lengths to support and help those in need. He was always accepting of others, and hadn’t a judgmental bone in his body. For being such a talented, intelligent IT technician, Clay had a goofy side that always kept us laughing. His broad smile, edgy style, and whimsical dance moves exuded his fun-loving and spirited character.
Clay was employed as an Information Security Specialist at Technology Group Solutions in Lenexa, KS since 2015. Clay was a gifted technician, but what made him so special, was his ability to work with, and engage customers, while assisting them with their technical needs. Clay never knew a stranger, and was always willing to go above and beyond to help out someone in need. He was a giving and loving son, brother and friend to so many, and he will be missed beyond measure.
Clay is survived by his parents, his sisters and brothers, McKenna and her fiancé Cannon, Michael and his fiancé Allison, Andrew and his wife Christian, Jenna and her husband Daniel, his nephew Graham, and his niece Callahan. Clay is also survived by numerous loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and his beloved hairless cats Jif and Gryff. We know Clay is joyfully reuniting with his Grandma and Grandpa Coatney, Papa Ralph Morris, Nana Taylor, and his cousins Sean Martin, and Jack Coatney. We know Clay is loved here on earth as well as in heaven.
A celebration of Clay’s life will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 11, at St. Michael The Archangel Parish, 14251 Nall Avenue, Leawood, KS. Visitation to follow from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Porter Funeral Homes & Crematory, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. Burial will be held at a later date.
Clay spent the majority of his life, encouraging, supporting and lifting others up. His greatest gift was making others happy. We know in our hearts that Clay would want us to honor him by achieving and living out that happiness, until we’re blessed with the opportunity to embrace him again in Heaven.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, Clay’s family would appreciate donations to KC Care Health Center, Attn: Donations, 3515 Broadway, KC, MO 64111, www.kccare.org.
