David James Kinerk, known to friends and family as “Dave”, was born on January 15th 1984 in Pittsburgh, PA. David passed away on May 19th 2025, at the age of 41 years old, in the early morning at Research Hospital.
David spent most of his life in Kansas City where he graduated from Rockhurst High School. He went on to establish a long and successful career in the retail industry. He achieved high sale records working at Best Buy. While there, David worked his way up to team lead in the Magnolia Department, where he sold custom home theater designs for several years. He then transitioned to selling custom home furnishing at Nebraska Furniture Mart. While there, David once again set records for sale contributions and acquired a reputation for being the “go to” trainer for new hires. While working for NFM, he was published in an interior design magazine that gave him great pride and bragging rights. Dave’s passion for sales came from his love for people. He always loved getting to know co-workers that would later become life long friends to establishing repeat customers.
In 2018, David transferred out of the retail industry and began his lifelong career as a construction observation consultant, working at COCX2 LLC with his mother. He completed course work to become a HERS Rater, and also acquired his Green Professional Certification. He was currently working towards his certification as a Residential Building Inspector before he passed away. David’s passion for people continued into his current profession with getting to know workers on job sites. While working along side his mother, Anne Marie Kinerk, he took great pride in his role with providing safe and affordable housing. David’s current profession also provided great flexibility when it came to taking care and spending time with his family, which was David’s true love and passion.
David was survived by his loyal and loving wife Jessica, who met him at 18 years old while working at Cinemark movie theater. He was also survived by his two special daughters: Robin Kaylee Ann, 12 years old and Zoë Jaymes, 8 years old. He also leaves behind his mother Anne Marie Kinerk, who will continue loving him to the end of her life and beyond. He will also be greatly missed and forever loved by many members of the Kinerk and Davis families, along with many dear friends.
On a personal note, David had many interests which included: making pizza reviews from his favorite pizza places, telling terrible “DAD” jokes, and watching repeat episodes of the same shows such as The Office and Game of Thrones. Overall, David’s greatest interest was the time that he spent with his family and friends. His life was the definition of friendship and love. He showed many of us the value of lending an ear, offering a hand, and always willing to provide a moment of conversation (which often occurred at Lew’s). To David, Lew’s was “his” neighborhood bar and grill. It was a well known joke that Lew’s was David’s “CHEERS” because every single person knew his name and he knew them.
A Memorial Service will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia St., Lenexa, KS. Celebration of Life will be held at Lew’s on June 8th from 6p to 9p.
