Nov 12, 1952---Feb 20, 2026

David Maurice Egan, 73,  of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully at home on February 20, 2026.

He was born on November 12, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Edward and JoAnn Egan. David graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1971, from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1975 and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.  David attained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Bowling Green University. He then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Fondly known as “Doctor Dave,” he was in private practice throughout his career, working with children and adults.  David met his beautiful wife, Vickie, in Ann Arbor. They married on June 24, 1988, and moved to Shawnee the following year.  Together they shared 37 wonderful years of marriage.  On August 2, 1998, David became a dad to Natalie, his pride and joy.  He was a very dedicated and loving father; being the best dad possible for his daughter was a focus of his every day. David was known for his generous heart, quick wit and unwavering integrity. He was an avid seeker of knowledge, a sports enthusiast and a man who reached out to many, always trying to make a difference.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Egan; his daughter, Natalie Jacobs and her husband Dylan Jacobs; his brothers, Dennis, Dan and Doug Egan and his sister, Donna Jirovec; six nephews and seven nieces; his mother-in-law, Kay Pfeiffer; sisters-in-law, Connie Bargen and Terrie Warren and their families; and seven great-nephews & eight great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and JoAnn Egan, sister, Mary Shelby and brother, Darrin Egan. David leaves behind family pets, Paisley and Ivy, and granddogs, Koda and Penny. David will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15th at  Shawnee Mission Park, Shawnee, Kansas at Shelter #4, which is located at the marina upper parking lot.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Halo Foundation, a youth social services organization for Kansas City.

I knew Dave since grade school. We lived together as Phi Delts at MU. Dave was always competitive in academics, sports, and later on in our friendly poker games. I enjoyed Dave's dry sense of humor. He will be missed. Condolences to the entire Eagan familes.

I was deeply saddened by the news of David's passing. Our friendship goes back at least 60 years. I would like to propose a toast, no, make that a donut, to my friend, classmate, teammate, family man, and just a wonderful person. My best wishes to his family and many friends. Louis

Dave was always fun to hang out with. We were just fondly talking about him last week. Dave and I did our best to make Mick a tougher b-ball player.
