George Walter Nagel, 87, of Lenexa, Kansas passed Monday, July 7, 2025, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Hope Lutheran Church, 6308 Quivira Road, Shawnee, Kansas. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kansas. The family suggests memorial contributions to Hope Lutheran Church and School.
George was born January 28, 1938, in St. Louis Missouri to Peter F. and Emma J. Nagel. George attended Our Redeemer Lutheran School in Overland, Missouri, Ritenour High School in St. Louis, Missouri and Central College in Fayette, Missouri. George served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1964. He married Wanda S. Crafton on November 3, 1962, in Overland, Missouri and they had two daughters, Sheri and Stephanie. George was employed by Community Federal Savings and Loan Association for 30 years, retiring as Senior Vice President. He then worked for the Resolution Trust Corporation until permanently retiring in 1995. He was a former member of the Optimist Club of Ritenour (President), Missouri Chamber of Commerce (Board Member) and the Better Business Bureau of Kansas City (Chairman). He married Anita Wetzel on August 21, 2010. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Shawnee, Kansas.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, daughter Sheri, and brothers Peter H. Nagel and William R. Nagel.
George is survived by his wife, Anita Nagel, daughter Stephanie (John), grandchildren Rachel (Derrick), Claire, Zachery and Alex, great granddaughter Eden, Son-In-Law Jeff Baird, stepchildren Todd (Diane and their son Trevor) and Lynn (Rick and their son Trey), and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (Poppy), and friend. George loved KU Basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals and a good prime rib dinner with an ice-cold Bud Light or a classic Manhattan. He will be remembered for his calm and friendly demeanor, warm hugs, kind heart, quick wit, and infectious humor. He never missed a chance to burst into song at a moment’s notice.
