Sep 30, 1925---Jun 23, 2021

Helen Lorine Marlow was born on September 30, 1925, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Bishop J. E. and Bettie Janeva (Thomas)  Abernathy, Sr.

She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Mt. Zion Church of God In Christ by her father, Bishop J. E. Abernathy, Sr.

She received her formal education from the Kansas City, Kansas School system, graduating from Sumner High School in 1943.

Helen was married to Preston David Marlow until his death in 1972.

She was a nursing assistant at Swope Ridge Nursing Home for 25 years and then worked for Seton Center until her retirement in 1990.

Mom loved planting and tending to her rose bushes, planting a new one every Mother’s Day.  She had a favorite (one original to the home) she fondly referred to by Olive.  She enjoyed listening, singing, and dancing to all kinds of music. Mom also found joy in doing headstands in the front yard with her children, their friends, and later her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Freddie B. Abernathy, Mary E. Pyburn; one brother, Elder Jim E. Abernathy, Jr.; three nephews, Rory Lynn Abernathy, Fred M. Middleton, and Chester Swinnie.

She leaves to cherish her memories her three daughters, Stephani Marlow, Jan L. Randle, and Yolanda Marlow; her son-in-law, John S. Randle, Jr.; two Grandsons, Eric D. Randle, John S. Randle, III (Christina), two Granddaughters, Amber J. Randle and Shayla B. James, nine Great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

About 20 years ago, I moved to Kansas. I met Miss Helen at a church we both attended. It was a large church and yet, she was the only person who extended her hand in friendship to me. She was so kind, loving and funny. Her reaching out to me meant the world to me. It was as if God had given me my very own guardian angel. My condolences to her family who were such a source of pride to her.. Blessings.
