Dec 16, 1948---May 23, 2025

James “Jim” Daniel Carney II was born December 16, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Jim and Betty Carney. He passed away peacefully May 23, 2025, with Sister Lucero Garcia S.deM, of the Sister Servants of Mary, praying by his side.

Jim graduated from Rockhurst High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 21, 1966, during the Vietnam War.  Jim served at the USAF Tuy Hoa Air Base as an Aircraft Electronic Navigation Equipment Technician, working primarily on fighter jets and other military aircraft.

After serving four years in the Air Force, Jim transitioned to civilian life, working a wide variety of jobs ranging from servicing radar units on Kwajalein Island to professional photography in Albuquerque to repairing pool tables in the Kansas City metro area.

As a lifelong practicing Catholic, Jim held the words of Our Blessed Lord, “Love one another as I love you,” close to his heart in prayer and in practice throughout his life.  He was an active defender of the unborn and a caring son, brother and uncle.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Patrick Carney.  He is survived by his sisters, Mary Martin (Charlie), Joan Carney, Therese Carney (Paul) and Aimee Gabel, and brothers, Don Carney (Linda), Paul Carney (Julie), Tom Carney (Mary), Dan Carney (Allison) and Chris Carney (Millie), as well as sister-in-law, Randi Carney.  Additionally, he left behind numerous nieces and nephews with whom he left a lasting legacy of kindness and storytelling.

The Requiem Mass for Jim will be offered on Friday, May 30, 2025, 9:00 AM at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, 5035 Rainbow Boulevard, Westwood, Kansas. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Sister Servants of Mary, https://sisterservantsofmary.org/donate.
