James M. Wedeking, 79, of Lenexa, KS passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026. A Rosary will be prayed at 9:15 AM, visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM, Funeral Mass following at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 27, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615 W. 92nd, Lenexa, KS 66215. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.
James Michael “Jim” Wedeking was born July 02, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of William and Adeline (Ziebolz) Wedeking. He was a graduate of Hyden High School and Attended Rockhurst while working, before joining the Navy. After the Navy he attended Benediction College then worked as a computer programmer for the rest of his career.
He was a member of Holy Trinty Catholic Church, of Lenexa where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic minister and provided communion to various local nursing homes and hospitals. He was a lifelong member of Knights of Columbus. He had a weekly hour of Adoration at Holy Trinity on Sunday evening at 9 PM. He enjoyed volunteering, riding his bike, walking the dogs and spending time with his family.
Jim married Mary (Eckart) Wedeking on September 8, 1973, at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka, KS.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth (Libby) Wedeking DePinto (Mike) of Wichita, KS and Cassie Wedeking Mort (Carl) of Overland Park, KS ; 4 grandchildren C J Mort, Emily DePinto Hill(Benjamin), Caitlin Mort (KJ), Thomas King, Andrew DePinto; 1 great grandchild Caliana Walker , His bird Toby and 9 siblings, Sister Mary Adeline, Great Bend, Kansas, Nancy Turner, Hawthorne, CA, Clarissa Nelson, Enumclaw, WA, William “Billy” Wedeking, Topeka, Leroy Wedeking, Topeka Father Patrick Wedeking, Jamestown, NM, Anthony “Tony” Wedeking, Topeka, Stephen “Steve” Wedeking, Topeka and Darrell, Topeka: and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; siblings Molly McClellan, Diana and Danny Wedeking , Thomas Wedeking, Beverly Boucher, Joanne Murdock,
Jim won several battles with Cancer over the past 20+ years through strong faith, daily bike rides, long walks with his favorite dogs Bear, Buddy, Rusty, Athena, Nala, Happy and all that came before, spending time with family. He loved traveling, the lake, Chiefs and K-State football games, serving his community at the food bank and food kitchen. He was always up to help anyone who asked.
