Joseph M. Mascal, 78, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.  A Celebration of life will be from 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the Thompson Barn, 11184 Lackman Road, Lenexa, KS 66219.

Joe was born December 26, 1945, in Kansas City, KS to Joseph P. and Othella (Marshall) Mascal.  He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Navy and was a member of the Okanogan Naval Ship Reunion Group.  During Joe's career he worked for KCP&L and retired as a Buyer after 30+ years. Joe met Marybeth while on vacation in Washington D.C. in 1971. It was love at first site and they were married 4 months later. Joseph was a beloved husband, father and Papa. He loved to travel, especially on cruises. His favorite role was being “Papa” to his two grandchildren. He also had a soft spot in his heart for any animal. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Margaret Rector.  Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Elizabeth Mascal, two children Michael Mascal, Elizabeth (Kenny) Schlegel, two grandchildren Chloe and Jude Schlegel, sister Kathy (Dan) Yantis and many extended family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or Wayside Waifs.
