Dec 22, 1945---Feb 26, 2026

Joyce Schmitt, loving mother, devoted Mimi, and dedicated friend, passed away peacefully on February 26 at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim. She is survived by her only child, Jana, son-in-law, Ryan, and her cherished grandchildren, Reed and Elsie, who were the joy of her life.

For more than 40 years, she worked at a Hallmark card store, where her kindness, loyalty, and dedication touched both coworkers and customers alike. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and for helping them find just the right card or gift to express what was in their hearts. She was simply fun to be around. She loved shopping, watching American Idol, and enjoying a cold Coca-Cola as a special treat. She adored her pets, both dogs and cats, and always had a soft spot for animals. She also loved to collect beautiful silver jewelry, which she wore with style. Nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren. She rarely missed a game, performance, or activity and was always their biggest cheerleader. Being their Mimi was her proudest role and her greatest blessing.

Joyce will be remembered for her love, her devotion to family, and the joy she brought into the lives of everyone around her. She was the best mom and the most loving Mimi, and her absence leaves a space that can never be filled.

Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. with the Memorial Service following at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Lenexa, KS 66215.

Jana, your mom was an absolutely wonderful mom, and friend to all of us, and I know how much she loved you and your dad. It was always great to catch up with her at Hallmark over the years, she was such a genuinely kind woman who would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat. My family's thoughts & prayers are with you and your family.
