Nov 24, 1957---Apr 02, 2026

Kathleen "Kathy" (Tarwater) Curry, 68, of Lenexa, KS, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026 with her family by her side.

Kathy was born November 24, 1957 in Wichita, KS. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elise Tarwater. Kathy attended Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic School in Overland Park, KS and Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, KS. She married the love of her life, Jack Curry, on September 22, 1978, and they had four children together, whom she loved and cherished.

Kathy was a devoted and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was filled with endless love and support for everyone she knew. Being Nana was one of her favorite roles and she truly loved, treasured and spoiled all her grandbabies, and they loved her back just the same. Kathy had a generous soul and was passionate about her family and friends, her music and her holidays. To know Kathy was to love Kathy and friends became family, and nothing meant more to Kathy than her family. Spending time with loved ones brought her so much joy, whether it was camping at Pomme De Terre Lake, where time slowed down, laughter got louder, and every visit turned into a memory no one could forget; cheering passionately for the Royals or Chiefs - sometimes with joy, sometimes with disbelief, always with volume; listening to her music on the patio and dancing to her favorite bands; playing cards or going to the casino, where she firmly believed the machines were "due" and absolutely took it personally when they disagreed; or hosting all her favorite holidays. Friends and family knew that any gathering with her would include good stories, plenty of laughter and zero chance of leaving early. Kathy was always such a bright light in this world and she will always be remembered for her kindness, love and generosity. She had a gift of making ordinary moments unforgettable, unforgettable moments even louder, and never met a good time she didn't want to extend just a little longer. A huge hole is left in the hearts and souls of everyone that knew Kathy, but we are all better people because of her love. Kathy leaves behind a family and friends that miss her deeply, laughs because of her daily, and will forever think of her whenever we hear a slot machine jackpot, a Chiefs kickoff, or a good 70s classic.

Kathy is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Tarwater, her mother, Elise Tarwater, her brother Thomas Tarwater, her father in law, Jack Curry Sr, her mother in law Patricia Curry, her brother in law Mark Curry and her brother in law Brian Curry.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jack Curry, her sons Michael(Bronwyn) Curry, Jeffrey(Sarah) Curry, Kevin(Amy) Curry, her daughter Kelly Curry, her brother Tim(Pam) Tarwater and their son Sean, her grandchildren Kayla, Hunter, Colton, Ainsley, Chase, Alyssa, Easton and Addison, and many other loving family members and friends.

There will be a private service for family and a Celebration of Life for family and friends held at a later date.

To Jack and family, I was shocked to hear of Kathy’s death. I haven’t seen you all for a while and did not know that her cancer had returned. What an amazing woman to suffer through that, and yet still be positive and loving to all who knew her. Kathy was always smiling and fun to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Jack, I am so sorry to hear of Kathy’s passing. My family had known the Tarwarters for a long time. I think it started with little league baseball. Then through years at Queen of the Holy Rosary and Miege. You and your family are in my prayers. Bill

Jack & family. I am so sorry for your loss and to hear of Kathy’s passing. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers - not only today but randomly when I think back to my Tanner’s days and running over to your house to grab a drink or two with you guys in the backyard. Kathy will always be remembered for the ray of light she was, her kind heart and for not taking any crap! She will be missed by many.
