She loved fiercely. She was very protective. She loved bowling, her Diet Cokes, and the Kansas City Royals. She was always quick to brag about her daughter, granddaughters, and great-granddaughter to anyone who was within earshot. Her family was the center of her world.
Marilyn Blanche Young, 78, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2026, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
Born on Dec. 6, 1947, in Washington, D.C., to Harold Eugene Schreiber and Alice Lorraine Schreiber, Marilyn attended Wyandotte High School and later poured her heart into her career for nearly 50 years as a CT/MRI Technologist at Bethany Medical Center, the Diagnostic Imaging Center, North Kansas City Hospital, and stints at the VA Centers in Kansas City and Leavenworth.
As a single mother, Marilyn devoted herself to raising her daughter, Rebecca Crabtree. She was Rebecca's ultimate confidante. Her “I need you to show up with a shovel and not ask questions” person. For so long, it was them against the world. She later gave so much of herself to help care for her grandchildren. She spent countless weekends on the sidelines of her granddaughters’ soccer games, where she wasn't afraid to give her opinion on the referee or the coaching.
Pug, as she was affectionately known to those close to her, was kind, faithful, and a true best friend to her sisters Audra Morris and Sandy Jones. Their bond went beyond sisterhood. Marilyn was also very proud to be a Wyandotte graduate, where she played clarinet in the school band, and always loved reconnecting with former classmates over the years.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca; son-in-law Jeremy Crabtree; granddaughters Peyton Rosner, Avery Crabtree, Emerson Crabtree, Aniston Crabtree; great-granddaughter Poppie Rosner; grandson-in-law Jackson Rosner; and sisters Audra Morris and Sandy Jones.
The Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service following at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave. Kansas City, Kansas.
