Ocal Desmond Boster Jr., known and loved by many as “Bill” and “Sammy,” age 91, of Shawnee, Kansas, experienced his heavenly graduation September 1, 2026, following a brief stay at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Ocal was born May 30, 1935, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Ocal Desmond and Mary Caroline (Mathis) Boster. He worked many years as a United States Postal Service letter carrier, retiring in 1992. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring in 1995 as a Master Sergeant, and was a member of VFW Post 7397. Ocal lived a life filled with interests, friendships, and service. He was an avid roller skater, enjoyed his CB radio, collected diecast cars, bowled for many years, created in his wood shop, and served as director of the WYJON Bowling Association. He participated in the KCK Community Policing Unit, served as president of his RACE Neighborhood Group, and spent countless hours delivering food to soup kitchens. In his later years, he enjoyed Bingo, Blackjack, Pai Gow, and Rummikub at his senior residence. Wherever he went, he brought joy and laughter with him. Above all, Ocal loved Jesus Christ. In 1974, his life was transformed when he came to faith in Christ, beginning a lifelong journey of devotion, service, and sharing God’s love with others. For many years, he attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God, where he became affectionately known as “The Candy Man.” More recently, he attended Living Stone Family Worship Center, where he continued sharing vitamin C drops with everyone around him. His faith was the foundation of his life. He read through the entire Bible countless times and looked forward to being home with Jesus. In his later years, he led “Bible Stories With Bill” at his independent living community, sharing his love of Scripture with others. When asked what the Bible meant to him, his simple answer was, “It’s my life.” Ocal always had a smile on his face and joy in his heart. He believed in blessing, not luck, and when asked how he was doing, his familiar response was always, “Absolutely Terrific!” He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Jones (Jeff) of Lenexa, Kansas; son, Desie Boster (Toinette) of Fullerton, California; daughter, Michaelle Entringer (Dan) of Bozeman, Montana; stepchildren Wayne Kivett, Bonner Springs, KS, Steve Kivett, Parkville, MO Tammy Kivett, Thibodaux, LA, and Cherie Williams, Marble Falls, TX; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Alice; his parents, Ocal and Mary, four sisters, Catherine Chapman, Helen Boster, Pauline Bowen, and Francis Boster; two brothers, George Raymond Boster, and Joseph Boster; stepdaughter-in-law Debbie Kivett; stepson Bruce Kivett; and stepson-in-law Darrel Williams. Ocal’s 91 years were a testimony of faith, service, generosity, transformation, and joy. He loved Jesus, loved people, and never met a stranger. His earthly journey is complete, but his heavenly life has just begun. What a reunion he’s had!
