Patricia "Pat" Ann Straub of Hattiesburg, MS passed away on December 05,2024 at the age of 85.
Pat was born on April 27,1939 in Kanas City, KS to the late Alfred and Julia Smith. She grew up in Kansas City with her two sisters, the late Rose Marie Schmalz(Norman) and Mary Claire Reiter(Ted). She was preceded in death by her sister of California Jean McMullin (Don).
Pat received her nursing degree from St. Mary's College in 1960. She met the love of her life and soulmate, John Straub in 1958. They were married in 1961 for a wonderful 63 years and just celebrated their anniversary on November 25th. Pat and John were the epitome of a true love story. They were best friends, always thoughtful of the other, cared deeply and lovingly for one another. They always laughed and had a fun together. Pat was a caring, kind, and loving mother of five children, Maria Straub, the late Michelle Straub Wilensky ( Adam), John Straub Jr., Joe Straub ( Kelly) and Debbie Straub Pegany (Mo). Pat was always there for them and knew exactly how to lift them up when needed. She was a very loyal and caring friend. She brought sunshine and joy into the lives of everyone she encountered. She never new a stranger. Pat was a positive, happy, kind, caring, loyal and loving person.
Pat worked for Southern Eye Center as a RN for 17 years. She exemplified the true meaning of a caregiver, always providing a caring touch and compassion for her patients. She was lovingly known as "Nanna" to her ten grandchildren. Jack Straub, Christine Pegany, Sam Straub, Kate Pegany, Maya Pegany, Alexandra Wilensky, Max Straub, Matthew Pegany, Ethan Wilensky and Jenna Straub. She loved each of her grandchildren deeply and was very proud of all of them. She was known for her loving kindness and compassionate listening. Pat was known for her saying " I just listen, I don't ask questions." She always knew what to say that made you feel better even in difficult times. She was considered a second mother by many nieces and nephews as well as friends. She was a bright light on this earth and a blessing to all who knew her. We will greatly miss our beloved Nanna.
Visitation will be from 10-11:30 AM followed by Funeral Services at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9405 Mission Road, Leawood, KS. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to may make a memorial contribution in honor of Pat Straub, to St. Fabian Catholic Church Building Fund at 9 St. Fabian Way, Hattiesburg, MS 39402.
