Jun 02, 1930---Oct 29, 2025

Virginia was born to John Harold Main and Viola May Ackerman Main on June 2, 1930.  She had four brothers  and one sister,  Harold Junior , James Everett,  Sally Bell, Henry Clay, and Frederick LeRoy is the youngest and only surviving sibling.

At the age of four Virginia’s family moved to Kansas City.  She attended primary schools in Kansas City Kansas and went to Argentine High School.

Virginia met Bill Kimbrell at the age of fourteen in Garden City, Missouri, where she spent most of her summers and holidays.  Bill and Virginia were married on November 2, 1946.  That had two daughters  Sandra Lee and  Linda Sue, of whom they were really proud.  They lived in Kansas City until they purchased acreage  in rural Paola, Kansas.  Bill retired from General Motors and they built a new brick home on that acreage .  They lived in that home until they moved to Overland Park, Kansas  in 1989 due to Bill’s health.

Bill joined the Mason’s and Virginia the Order of the Eastern Stars.   Virginia received her 50 year certificate having joined in 1954.  She held several offices through the years.

Virginia’s parents proceeded her death in 1971.  Bill died July 4, 1993 at the age of 67.

She was blessed with two grandchildren,  Lacey and Ryan Parker.  They share many memories of going to the farm, jumping hay bales, picking strawberries and catching catfish out of grandpa’s pond.  Virginia watched them mature in to adults.

Virginia had two great son’s in-law,  Bruce Parker and Gene Salmans.  She  was also blessed with two wonderful people in her life,  Herbert and Lucille Kimbrell,  Bill’s younger brother and his now deceased wife.  They saw her through some trying times,  never failing to show up if she needed anything  or just company.

She was a member of Valley View Methodist Church, spending many Sunday mornings serving as a greeter.  Virginia enjoyed her many hours spent with the church quilting group and throughly enjoyed the the many friendships from the Sunday School Class.

Through the years, due to her brothers and sister she was blessed with many nieces and nephews.  Her nieces Jeannie and Theresa Main were like two more daughters.  Nephews, Randy and Bill McSparren were like the sons she never had.

A long life well lived,  she and Bill  never lost contact with friends and family.

Virginia passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025.  Visitation will be 10:00 AM followed by the Funeral Services at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 4,  at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS.  Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, MO. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to the Johnson County Humane Society.

Linda My heart is aching for you. I will always remember Virginia as a mentor and friend. She reached out to Stan's mom in a time of need. Virginia would do just about anything for anyone in need. I will greatly miss her. Quilting will never be the same.

Linda and Sandra - We enjoyed interacting with your Mom for several years at Valley View, but also seasonally when she enabled us to store a car in her garage. We visited her periodically beyond the drop off and pick up days, to pet her cat(s), hear about family and just plain enjoy her company! She was a great conversationalist and was always very interested in and caring toward others. A blessing and a treasure!

Virginia was one of a kind. A beautiful smile, a wonderful laugh, a positive attitude, so concerned about others, & the special ability to make others feel good, & laugh. She made a great impact on others, especially at Valley View! Heaven gained a special one!
