Yvonne Anne Morrissey Lyons died at her home Monday morning, October 1, 2018. She remained the same spirited, loving and giving person she was known for throughout her life during her valiant two-year battle with cancer. She was comforted to her last breath by her six loving children and loving husband, Dick. Yvonne was born July 19, 1938, as the second child of eight to Vincent Morrissey and Mary Shreck Morrissey at the old Providence Hospital in KCK. She was raised a devout Catholic and attended Blessed Sacrament School and Bishop Ward High School in KCK. At Bishop Ward she met Dick Lyons, and they became high school sweethearts and married in February 1958 at Blessed Sacrament. The marriage of 60 years celebrated this February bore six fabulous children, Richard (Laura), Jeffrey (Mary Lou), Bridget (Jeff), Amy (Derek), Eric (Michelle), and Sara (Andrew). They gave Dick and Yvonne 19 extraordinary grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Yvonne was a loving, caring, selfless woman who dedicated her life to her children and her husband. She achieved her life goal to raise six happy, well adjusted, successful children, and they are they are her lasting legacy. Her children love each other as much as they loved their mother and father, and that brought her great joy. She would often say “Don’t we have a great family?”
Yvonne is also survived by her siblings Patricia, Vincent, Rosemarie, Michael, Rita, Denise, and Celeste, and many cherished friends. Bishop Ward friends described her as sweet, and she was. Yvonne was as good as it gets in this imperfect world, and Dick and all those in her life will love her as much when she is gone as they did when she was here. She had a great full life that we thank God for. Visitation will be at Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., KCK, on Thursday, October 4yh from 5:00-8:00pm, concluding with a Rosary at 7:30pm.
