Jun 28, 1948---Jul 16, 2018

Monte Gross 70, Born June 28, 1948 passed away peacefully at his home on July 16,2018.  He was the son of Corwin and Evelyn (Carr) Gross.  Monte was a lifetime resident of Wyandotte County.  He grew up at 11th Street and Ann Street in KCK and attended Lowell Grade School and was a 1966 Graduate from Washington High School. He also achieved the High Honor of Eagle Scout in 1964. Monte followed in his fathers’ footsteps and worked for National Papers-Champion International Corp, from which he retired.  After his retirement Monte’s passion for Wyandotte County grew.  For the last 12 years he spent every day at The Wyandotte County Historical Museum doing research for people not only in Wyandotte County but also from across the Nation.  Any map, photo or news article you requested, somehow, he came up with it. Not only did you get the photo, but you got a 2-hour history lesson on the subject.  Most of the information about Wyandotte County was stored in Monte’s head.  Many times, he was asked to record his knowledge, but he always just shook his head laughing and walked away.  The Staff and Volunteers at The Wyandotte County Museum and the people of Wyandotte County have lost a treasure.  The knowledge that this man took with him will be greatly missed by all.  Monte was a very private person, and the only hobby that he had was learning and talking about the history of Wyandotte County.  A celebration of his life will be held at The Wyandotte County Historical Museum on Saturday October 20th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. 631 North 126th Street Bonner Springs, KS 66012. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Wyandotte County Museum to continue the preservation of the history of Wyandotte County.
