Sherry K. Shively, 69, of Overland Park passed away November 29, 2018. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 4 at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Street, Lenexa, KS; followed by a celebration of Sherry’s life at 12:00 p.m. Private interment at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Sherry was born November 27, 1949, the daughter of Francis B. and Lois Irene (Hays) Farris, in Munich, Germany. Sherry grew up in the Ruskin/Grandview neighborhoods. She graduated from Grandview High School. She became a CPA after graduating from Metropolitan State College in Denver, CO. Sherry and her husband, Brian, returned to the Kansas City area; settling in Overland Park in 1977. She obtained her MBA from Avila University after returning to the area. Sherry worked as a CPA, while she was working for Johnson County Community College, she worked as an instructor of accounting curriculum, retiring in 2013. She began a career in publishing by introducing Seniors Blue Book to the Kansas City area as owner and publisher. She loved her work and was constantly exploring ways to improve each of her endeavors.
Sherry absolutely loved her family. She cherished their wonderful memories from the past, and excitingly looked forward to their many new adventures. She always cherished the special relationship she had with all of her grandchildren. She was a constant support for any and all of their endeavors without any reservations. Sherry demonstrated love, integrity, compassion and sacrifice in all aspects of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shelia R. Farris; son, Benjamin L. Shively; and grandson, Ian Shively. Sherry is survived by her husband of 49 years, Brian L. Shively; son, Matthew Boyd Shively; daughter, Meg E. Kaemmer and husband Kyle; daughter in-law, Christina Shively; brother, Steve (Steven) Farris; and her seven grandchildren, Samantha, Olivia, Lucy, Tyler, Maci, Brody and Connor.
