Rose D. (Darlene) Weinert was born on June 15, 1930 in Fortuna, Missouri to Carl and Edna (Hays) Thixton. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1939. She attended Central and Lowell Elementary Schools and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1948. On August 17, 1950, she married the boy next door, Dan Weinert. They had three children Linda, Joan, and Danny. Darlene was a homemaker and was room mother for her kids for several years. She saw to it that her kids excelled in school and made sure that they always were prepared. Countless hours were spent at the kitchen table going over spelling words and multiplication facts. She was very proud of the fact that all three were spelling champions and National Honor Society members. She also taught all her kids how to drive a stick shift. After several white knuckled incidents, all three got their license on their first try. In her later years, she and Dan were very active in their church, Westwood Christian, and were involved in many activities there. They also both volunteered for Cancer Action. In 2012, they moved to Vintage Park Assisted Living Center in Tonganoxie, Kansas. After Dan’s passing in 2015, Darlene continued living there until 2018, when she moved to Bonner Springs Nursing Center where she passed away December 23, 2018. The family would like to thank the staff of both places, as well as the wonderful staff of Heartland Hospice Care.
