Elizabeth "Betty" (Southard) Reichmeier was born on February 18th, 1936, and passed away on Tuesday February 12th, 2019 at her home in Overland Park. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years William who passed back in 2011. She leaves two sons, Mike (Tandy) Reichmeier of Lenexa and Rick Reichmeier of Overland Park, daughter Beth Waterman of Overland Park, two grandchildren, Charlie of Shawnee and Christopher and his wife Stephanie of Columbus, Georgia. She also leaves two great grandchildren Maisie and Daphne of Columbus, Georgia.
Betty was a very creative and gifted artist and had a very successful career working for such prominent companies as Hallmark Greeting Cards, American Greeting Cards, Drawing Board, and Random House (children's book illustrator) to name a few. She also had her own line of greeting cards called "Under The Rainbow". One of her more recent endeavors was illustrating a children's Christmas book called The Humbug Christmas as well as creating and sculpting ornaments based on the title character and creating many other ornaments from other companies such as Harley Davidson Little Cruiser collection.
Betty also displayed her artwork countless times at the Plaza Art Fair back in the 1960's and 1970's. She even had her own art fair for several consecutive years at the Prairie Village Shopping center back in the 60's and 70's.
Betty was a great loving and caring mother and person and will be missed by not only her immediate family but by all who had the chance to meet her. Heaven has a new angel.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS. Visitation will precede the mass at 10:00 a.m. both on Saturday, February 16. Memorial contributions are suggested to Catholic Charities, 9720 W. 87th St. Overland Park, KS 66212.
