Ronald D Nielsen, 76, passed away early in the morning on February 13th, 2019 at his Lenexa home.    Born on July 29th, 1942 in Council Bluffs Iowa to George and Patrica Nielsen.  He joined the navy in 1959 for three years.  Upon return in 1962 he took up a career as an auto mechanic.  In this capacity he worked at several different companies, such as UPS, International Harvester, and retired from Sysco in 2008.  Ron was a great lover of outdoor activities such as sailing and camping, and was also a great teller of stories and jokes which those who knew him best will recall fondly.  Preceded in death by his three brothers, Frank Nielsen, George Dale Nielsen, and Kenneth Nielsen.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Rachel Nielsen, daughter, Eva Norman and her husband Todd Norman, son, Dean Nielsen and his wife Moriah Nielsen, sister, Mary Vanderpool, grandchildren and great-grandchildren Rachelle Nagle and her husband Ben Nagle, Tim Scholl, Anastacia Nelson, Tatyana Nielsen, Natasha Nelson, Katrina Nielsen.  As Ron was a lifelong lover of animals, we ask that any donations go to the SPCA in Merriam, KS to which Ron regularly donated.  Visitation will be held at Porter Funeral home at 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215 on Monday, February 18th from noon to 1 o'clock with a funeral service to follow at 1 pm. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.  Please join us at Community Covenant Church 15700 West 87th St. Lenexa, KS 66215 for Ron's celebration of life gathering immediately following funeral services.

Please accept my sincere condolence. Death is an enemy to us all. I too have lost loved ones and felt the pain. What help me was knowing this; Psalm 34:18 Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit. As time passes may the fond memories shared over the years become greater than that of sorrow.
