May 30, 1928---May 14, 2019

James R. Perry, 90, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14,

2019.

James was born in Pueblo, Colorado on May 30,1928 to George Dewey and Clara (Ahlers)

Perry. He graduated from Centennial High School, Pueblo in 1947 and joined the Army during the

Korean War conflict in 1950. After completing his service, he moved to Kansas City, Kansas

and worked as a field engineer for Burroughs Machine Company, later renamed Unisys, for 35

years. At work, he met Betty Jean Barbee, and they were married on September 14, 1958.

James and Betty were married for 48 years and had three children.

James was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, KCK, where he served as Treasurer for

many years. He and Betty moved to Shawnee in 1995 to be closer to their children and

grandchildren. They joined Hope Lutheran Church in 1994. James enjoyed watching his

grandchildren and working around the house and in his yard during retirement.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Barbee) Perry; a son, David R. Perry; a brother,

George D. Perry Jr.; a sister, Dorothy (Perry) Joseph; and his parents.

James is survived by two daughters, Jamie J. Perry of Overland Park and Krista Gansebom

and husband Terry of Shawnee; 5 grandchildren, Kristina Wood and husband Chris of

Leavenworth, Adam Gansebom of Shawnee, Megan (Gansebom) McKee and husband Eric of

Oak Ridge, NC, Dustin Gansebom of Ames, IA, and Ryan Gansebom of Shawnee; 6 great

grandchildren, Nikolas, Jena, Jamee, Ahlexa, Christopher, and Aiden, all of Leavenworth.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in

Shawnee. Interment will be at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens Cemetery.
