Dec 23, 1958---Jun 15, 2019

Kenneth (Scott) Paine, age 60, passed away on June 15th, 2019.  Scott was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 23, 1958 and was preceded in death by his parents,  Wilma Genelie (Johnson) Paine and Kenneth Eugene Paine.

Scott lived his entire life in Kansas City, Kansas until June of 2018 when he moved to Olathe to be near his family caregivers.  He was a graduate of Schlagle High School and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

In 1974, Scott was the Kansas State Special Olympics Champion for Free Throw Shooting, a skill that he and his dad worked on for a very long time.

Scott will be missed by a large extended family who all loved him and will miss his gentle and kind nature.  He enjoyed family gatherings and is remembered for his love of taking and sharing photos.   He loved the trips to the bank, to the grocery store, and particularly shoving quarters into the gumball machine in order to get trinkets, which he then would share as gifts to his younger relatives.

Scott and Kenny frequently visited the casinos and respective buffets in the area.  Scott was an avid collector of coins, magazines and cards.   His memory was matched by no one.  He was an expert of entertainment industry trivia and knew all of the names of actors and musicians as well as their associated movies, TV shows, roles, and music.  He was particularly fond of cartoons and Disney movies.  He was proud that he had seen “Frozen” over 50 times, but he also was a big fan of “Frankenstein”, “Dracula”, and “The Mummy”.

Scott never forgot anyone he had ever met in life – not only by name, but where and when he met them and something special about each.  Whether at a restaurant, medical office or at the grocery store, Scott always left by sharing a bit of trivia and then saying, “Now you have a nice day”.   We know that Scott is now surrounded by those who watched him grow and in a place where Every Day is a Good Day.

The family would like to thank Janis Hodgdonand her staff and residents of Gardens at Creekside in Olathe for welcoming Scott to the community, particularly his adopted moms on the 3rd floor.

A celebration of Scott's life with take place on Friday, June 28. 2019 at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 5010 Parallel, Kansas City, Kansas.

My cousin Rick Ruttan was best friends with Scott at Schlagle High School ,Basehor ,Kansas

I am so sorry for your loss. Your loss is a great loss for my cousin, Rick Ruttan. On May 20th, my cousin Rick Ruttan [who now lives in Euless, Texas] wrote the following letter to me: "Can you find out what happened to my friend Scott Paine. Maybe he lost his Dad. It has been a year and his phone no longer is in service. I used to get letters now and then....been a year. Maybe dad died, no mom. Might be with his cousin. Can you help ? Rick Ruttan They were best friends in high school. They me in Saundra Beverly's class at Schlagle High School. My mother, Betty Ruttan Williams, used to take them over to Indian Springs so they could go to the movies. Rick would also go by Scott's house on Georgia in Kansas City, Kansas and they would hang out and watch television. They maintained contact and years afterward until Rick's grandmother passed away and we moved Rick to Texas to be nearer to his sister. My daughter and I have been doing searches to try to find Scott and were shocked to find his obituary. I have not contacted Rick yet. I plan to mail the obituary to him and would like to be able to tell him a bit more about Scott's passing. If you are comfortable with contacting me, my email is listed on this condolence. Thank you for your time and again, I am so sorry to hear of Scott's passing.
