Nov 23, 1951---Aug 12, 2019

Douglas K. Wilson, 67, of Overland Park, KS passed away Monday, August 12, 2019.  Doug was born on November 23, 1951 in Marysville, KS to Davis and Barbara Wilson.

He attended Antioch Elementary, Milburn Jr High, and Shawnee Mission West High School.

Doug served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, during which time he purchased his first guitar.  After returning to the states, he attended both KU and Johnson County Community College.

Doug married Linda Wittman on May 28, 1976.  During their marriage they had one son, Clinton Douglas Wilson, born in 1979.

Doug enjoyed teaching his son, spending lots of time coaching baseball and basketball.  He enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends, dirt bike trips to Chadwick and Perry Lake, singing and playing his guitar, especially around campfires where he became quite the entertainer!

Doug married Dee Tiday on July 4, 1995.  Together they enjoyed taking cruises in many parts of the world, as well as countless camping trips in their motor home amongst the company of wonderful friends.  During the winter months, they loved getting away from the cold KC weather and lived in their motor home on the beautiful beaches of Galveston, TX.

Doug spent most of his professional career in the lumber industry, starting out hand unloading box cars, then as a truckdriver, dispatcher, and finally finding his true calling as a salesman, with the last 18 years at Sun Lumber Company in KC, KS.  He made countless friendships along the way, and was known for his dedication, hard work, and willingness to always go above and beyond expectations.  He absolutely loved and took tremendous pride in what he did.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Davis and Barbara Wilson, and his brother, Bill Wilson, in 2014.  He is survived by his loving wife, Dee Tiday of Overland Park, his son, Clint Wilson, and grandsons Collin and Riley Wilson, all of Shawnee; brother Mike and wife Chris Wilson of Wichita, sisters Cindy Wilson of Durham, NC, and Wendy and husband Jerry Keller of Topeka, sister-in law Susie Wilson of Overland Park, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He will be greatly missed.

The celebration of Doug’s life will begin with a visitation Tuesday, August 20th, from 6:00-8:00pm, and a funeral service Wednesday August 21st, at 10:00am.  Both services will be at Porter Funeral Home located one block west of 85th & Quivira in Lenexa, KS.  A private burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, KS.

Contributions in Doug’s name may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Family Friend ,Universal City ,Texas

My father, Skip Basler, was great friends with Doug and the entire Wilson Family. I have so many great memories of Doug - float trips in the Ozarks, Royals games, etc. As a young kid accompanying my dad and Doug to places, the one thing I fondly remember was that he was always laughing. Doug was full of joy and truly enjoyed life. I cannot picture him in my mind's eye without that huge smile on his face. He was a great guy and I'm sorry to hear of his passing. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.
