Jan 24, 1966---Feb 20, 2020

Mary Lynn Salisbury (Tavernaro), age 54, passed away on February 20, 2020, at her home in Overland Park, KS, surrounded by those who were her world.  We never truly understand what ‘I miss you’ means until we reach for your hand and you are not there. These words were never truer than they were today as our beautiful Lynn was called home.

Lynn was born on January 24th, 1966 in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert and Mary Tavernaro.  She grew up in the Kansas City area, attending Bishop Miege High School, until she went to college at Pittsburg State University where she majored in elementary education.  It was while at Pittsburg State that she met the man who would become her one and only.  She married Randy Salisbury on June 24, 1989 and spent her lifetime at his side while raising two wonderful daughters.

Lynn was the center of our family.  She was the one who kept us grounded yet supported us in our dreams.  She always found time for us all, friends and family alike, even after the longest of days.  From the very start of her battle with cancer, Lynn understood that this was a fight that she must take on with her fierce, stubborn side as well as her loving, selfless side.  She truly saw her life, no matter how long it would last, as one full of joy.  She rarely showed her pain or frustration during this time, but instead showed us all how to live each day as it comes and cherish the simple things in life.

Lynn would want her daughters, Molly and Maggie, to remember a few things now that she is gone. First and foremost, she would want them to remember that they were her life’s greatest gifts. Secondly, she would want them to remember that they are strong enough to go on without her, but also that they need only to call out and she will hear them, always. Finally, to remember that a mother’s love is forever imprinted on your heart and her guidance never stops.

During Lynn’s last moments, she was reminded of how special she was to all those she touched, but especially to the man who loved her most. The words and music may have been written by another, but the tribute to their love story was clear:

“When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
'Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a while
'Cause, girl, you're amazing
Just the way you are..”

Lynn is survived by her husband, Randy, and her two beautiful daughters, Molly and Maggie: her mother, Mary Tavernaro, her brother, Bobby Tavernaro, and his wife, Jennifer, along with their two daughters’ Olivia and Sullivan: her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Kay Salisbury; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Greg and Melinda Salisbury and their daughter and son, Megan Redfern and Brandon Salisbury: as well as a large extended family of Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her Father, Robert Tavernaro, and her Aunt, Ruth Barnheiser.

Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. with visitation to follow from 4:15-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, KS.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the Church of the Holy Cross.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Bishop Miege High School via Robert K. Tavernaro Scholarship.

Randy, Maggie and Molly - my heart breaks for you. Lynn was truly one of the most genuinely sweet, nice, warm, amiable humans I have ever met. But she could still throw a jab with a wink when needed and deserved. The last time we were together was when you all invited me over the day that my mom passed. She fed me tacos and we watched a Chiefs game. Her hospitality and concern were significantly therapeutic. I cannot even imagine how much you will miss her every day. Love to you all.

Lynn's radiance has truly ascended, and though she has returned to our Lord who lovingly welcomes her with open arms, I can't help but cry for the heartache her absence on Earth will bring. Yet we know, that as long as those who knew her and loved her still live, so too will Lynn. Randy, Maggie and Molly... we are absolutely broken hearted for you. You fought so hard alongside her and we know your love fueled her each step of the way. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. ❤
