Virginia L. Zumalt, 85, of Shawnee, Kansas died of complications from Acute Myeloid Leukemia on Monday, March 9, at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Services will be Friday, March 13, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 W. 75th St. Shawnee, KS. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. followed by a visitation until the Funeral Mass at noon. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery Lenexa, KS immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Conception Abbey, Conception, Mo. in honor of Virginia Zumalt.
Virginia was born January 19th, 1935, in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Bill and Kitty Stack. She first attended Lillis High School in Kansas City, MO and completed her secondary education at St. Martin’s Academy, in South Dakota. She then worked at St. Mary’s Hospital where she became a certified cardiology technician. She finished her career with Dr. Kirk Barnett whom she worked with for nineteen years, retiring in 2001.
Virginia met the love of her life, John Zumalt, at a place called The Jug in Kansas City MO. They were happily married on February 13th, 1960 at Christ The King, Kansas City MO. John and Virginia celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past February.
Virginia was a member of Good Shepard Catholic Church. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and always said her daily Rosary and prayers.
Virginia loved KU basketball, her DVR, and MSNBC. She and John enjoyed playing Pinochle with Snookie and Bob most Thursdays. She loved spending the Fourth of July at Red Bud South, Truman Lake. Solitaire was her go to game.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Kitty Stack, her mother and father in law Sanford and Iva Zumalt, her uncle Father Gilbert Stack, her nephew David Wilson, and her daughter in law Rhonda Zumalt.
Virginia is survived by her husband, John S. Zumalt, Jr. and her children Marcie Zumalt (Jim Barnes), Johnny (Kena) Zumalt, and Jimmy (Julie) Zumalt. Grandchildren Kyley (Devin) Long, Joey (Sara) Zumalt, Frankie Zumalt, Jack Zumalt, Ryan Zumalt, Josh Zumalt, and Collin Barnes. Her siblings Mary Kay Masucci, Garrett (Jane) Stack, and Tom (Colleen) Stack. Brother and sister in law Auntie Sis and Uncle Roy Wilson, cousin Snookie Krumbeigel, and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was the light of our lives and the life of the party. She, a.k.a. Aunt Dinner, will be dearly missed for her family gatherings and her dedication to bringing family and friends together for all occasions. Thank you, mom, your spirit will always be remembered for the joy and happiness you brought to our lives. Your traditions will live on, we love you.
