Oct 15, 1947---Jun 05, 2020

Kenneth Wayne Minick was born to Robert Estella Minick and Berdyne Ruth Hollis on October 15th, 1947 and died June 5th, 2020 surrounded by his children and loved ones. He was a man of faith, of service and respected by those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Ethel and Linda, brother Bill and daughter-in-law Nikki.

Ken proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 173rd airborne division during the Vietnam war from 1967-1969 and as a drill instructor at Ft. Knox, KY from 1969-1973 known by his recruits as “Mad Dog Minick”. Upon his discharge from the military in 1973, Ken worked as a millwright for Armco Steel, later retiring in 1999.

During his lifetime, Ken was a devoted husband, loving and supportive father, grandfather and friend. He loved the Lord, God with all of his heart and taught his children and grandchildren to do the same. He spent time in Israel and believed in the work he was doing with God’s people, often expressing his desire to return one day. His message was simple: love one another and love God, until your dying breath.

Ken is survived by his children, Brian Minick, Joshua and Ashton Minick, Nathan Minick and Caitlyn Minick, grandchildren Lauren, Taylor, Alexis, Ava, Simon, Montgomery, Aiden, Greyson, Charles, Easton, and great grandchild Kai Paul.

A funeral service will be held Thursday June 11, 2020 at 9am at the Porter Funeral Homes and Crematory, located at 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215.

May you find comfort in God’s promise at Revelation 21:3,4. “God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

My condolences to the family. I never met Ken, but he was a son of my great-grandfather. My father is Zane Wickham, eldest son of Gale Wickham and Margaret Minick Wickham. I'm a working on a family tree and had added him not too long ago. My mom Sandi died in January 2020, so I know this is a difficult time for all of you. Blessings and peace.
