Our Father and Grandpa Rex G. Swartz Sr. of Overland Park, KS passed away of heart failure Wednesday the 20th at Hospice House. He is survived by daughters Lynn Sweeney and husband Stuart of Linwood, KS, Lori Hinnen and husband David of Towanda, KS, son Rex Swartz II and wife Brittney of Prairie Village, KS. Stepsons Leland Green of Wichita and Lance Green of Rose Hill. He is also survived by grandchildren Matthew Jorgensen and wife Meghan, Jacob Sweeney, Maggie Swartz, Anita Cerney and husband Kendall, Amanda Hinnen, Andy Sweeney, Oscar Swartz, AJ Hinnen and wife Summer, Libby Sweeney, and great grandchildren Maddox and Miller Jorgensen. Step Grandchildren Adrianna, Nate and Tyler Green. He was preceded in death by wife Kathi, his parents Floyd and Clarice Swartz, and one brother Don.
Rex was born in Alta Vista, KS. He graduated from Salina High and Brown Mackie College. He served our Country as part of occupational forces in Germany after World War II. He owned several businesses including carpet installation and a hair salon in Salina. Hays Academy of Hair Design in Hays, KS, along with his wife Kathi. Kathi and he moved to KC in 1998 and owned a remodeling and repair business.
The sudden death of his soulmate Kathi (2008) was devastating. However, he remained resilient and lived independently until his passing. He loved to keep up with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many a home project was influenced by his expertise. He had an uncanny ability to find simple cost saving solutions.
Rex will be fondly remembered by his family, Doctors and Nurses, friends, and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank staff of Advent Shawnee Mission and Hospice House for care in his final days.
