Apr 21, 1951---Mar 05, 2021

Mary Barbara Lind (69) passed from her life as we know it on Friday March 5, with her dog on her lap and surrounded by her loving family. Mary –  “Barb” or “Baba” to her family - was one of the nicest, kindest and most generous people you could ever meet. Born April 21, 1951, she was a graduate of Washington High School in Kansas City, Kansas where she was also homecoming queen. She attended University of Kansas as a sociology major, and then her spirit of adventure brought her to San Francisco at the age 23. Mary worked various secretarial jobs until becoming Vice President and co-owner of Pioneer International, an import/export brokerage in San Francisco. After leaving Pioneer, she worked for the Workforce Investment Board in Fairfield, CA where she developed close friendships with many of her co-workers. In 2019, after almost 45 years, she left the Bay Area to be closer to her Kansas family and moved into her beloved brother Jack’s home.

Mary had a great love of all animals and took in many stray kitties and gave them a loving home. Her two rescue dogs, Gus and Delilah, were her constant pals. In her life she also enjoyed gardening, boating on the Sacramento Delta, traveling, reading and spending time with her loving friends and family. Mary collected art and supported artists and, like many in her family, she had a fine aesthetic sense - her home, her clothes, her garden all exuded her unmistakable and unique style. She loved flowers and always adorned her home with little arrangements. Mary was friends with everyone and treated you like you were very special. Although born in Kansas, she always considered herself a “California girl.”

She is survived by her sister Margaret Rose, brother Jack Lind, sister Eleanor Lind, brother-in-law Andrew Philpot, sister-in-law Trudy Lind, nephews Jared Lind, Grant Lind, Alex Lind, Mason Engling, Austin Engling, niece Isabella Lind, two great nieces Amaya and Julia Lind, and her dear friends Brenda, Susan, Shirley, Tamara, Sharron, Luis, Kristi and Daryl. She is preceded in death by her mother Mary E. Lind, father Alan G. Lind, brother Gus Lind, and brother-in-law Steve Ramberg.
