Ann Jane DuBois, 88, beloved wife, mother and sister passed away peacefully in her home on August 26th, 2022. Her life will be celebrated with a funeral Mass held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 10th, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W. 71st St., Overland Park, KS 66204.
Ann was born in Clay Center, KS, on January 3, 1934, to Frederick William Beckmeyer and Irene Sheeran Beckmeyer. She grew up in Chapman, KS with parents and siblings whom she adored and loved. She was a straight A student, always at the top of her class, and attended Kansas State University where her love of reading was channeled into top honors as an English major. Ann was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Upon completion of college at KSU, Ann taught school in Belleville, KS for a short time before moving to Kansas City to begin her career at the Federal Reserve Bank, where she met her husband of 57 years, Glenn Harlan DuBois. Together they had four children: John (Vicki) DuBois, Marie A. DuBois, Irene S. DuBois, and Maureen (Steve) Hall, and eight grandchildren: Hannah, Mary Kate, Jack, Matthew, Tommy, Jamie, William, and Annabel.
Ann worked for the Somerset Ballet Centre (subsequently Kansas City Ballet), for 27 years. At the ballet school she influenced numerous students and parents. Many of them loved spending their time chatting with “ Miss Ann” while waiting for class. Her friendly smile welcomed hundreds of students over the years. Upon retirement she was honored during a performance at the Kauffman Performing Arts Center. She was so proud of her work and loved every minute of it.
Ann and Glenn were of strong faith and were active members of Queen of the Holy Rosary parish. Together they attended Mass daily and many Holy Hours of Eucharistic Adoration at the chapel that they played an integral part in founding. They were members of the Legion of Mary and also participated in the R.C.I.A. program as sponsors to incoming church members. Ann was also an active member of St. Ann’s Circle group for many years.
Ann loved to read and in her later years she was always content with a great book, a hot cup of coffee, and a pleasant day sitting on her front porch swing. Her famous words were, “I love life.” Words Ann lived by.
Ann’s humility wouldn’t allow her to acknowledge all the wonderful traits she possessed. She was kind to everyone, a willing ear to anyone in need, and always a welcome presence. She was greatly loved and the world is a better place because of her.
Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Sartorius. She is survived by her brother, William Beckmeyer of Salina, KS.
