It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Tru Thi Nguyen mourns her peaceful passing on September 8, 2022, at the age of 89 years old. She was born on February 8, 1933 at Ba Lang, Thanh Hoa, Vietnam. She is a deeply cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is the youngest of seven children. She resettled to America in 1975, along with her family, in Moline, Illinois. In 1994, she and her husband moved to Overland Park, KS to be near their children.
She is a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary daily. Her husband, Niem Dinh Nguyen, passed away 15 months ago. This loss impacted her health which required 24 hour care provided by her children near and afar. The nightly rosary and daily televised Mass comforted Tru. During these moments, her memory returned and she recited every prayer and song. Aside from her religious devotion, she was committed to providing a Catholic education to her children. She found joy in cooking, gardening, walking and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday and would always sneak money as gifts. Her famous dishes included canh chua (tamarind fish soup), cha gio (egg rolls), xoi vo (sweet rice) and pho.
She will lovingly be remembered by her nine children, twenty-two grandchildren and six great grandchildren:
Children: Kim Men Bui (Ty), Tam Dinh Nguyen (Thu), Kim Dung Vu, Kim Danh Pham (Dao), Kim Khanh Ruf (Mike), Kim Thanh Waters (Jeff), Hoa Nguyen (Wendy), Hoang Nguyen (Danilyn) and Thuan Nguyen (Kristy).

She is predeceased by her devoted and adored husband of sixty-seven years, Niem Dinh Nguyen, her parents, her 3 older brothers, one of which was a priest, and two older sisters. She is survived by one older sister, Lanh Thi Nguyen.
Our hearts are heavy but we know that our devoted mother and grandmother will always be with us, protecting and guiding us. We find comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her loving husband.
