Born October 6th, 1936 in Topeka, Kansas passed away on May 27th, 2023. There are no formal services planned.
My dad was the only son of RobRoy Ian Macgregor and Valrie Wiruth (Macgregor).
He was a Graduate of Leavenworth High School who received a scholarship to the University of Kansas to run track. He soon lost that scholarship because of poor grades. He wanted to study Archeology, but his mother said no and he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He married Valorie Beth and together they had a family of three children; RobRoy Ian, Sandra Beth and Erica Lane.
Dad started racing dirt bikes in his free time and spent weekends practicing or competing in Enduros. After many years of motorcycle racing; dad decided to switch to running 5k races. He loved the races and the great friends he saw before and after the events. He would even enter into a Saturday and a Sunday race. I think it was for the free food and swag bags.
After suffering years of running with bad knees, Dad ran only on the weekends and began working out at Tomahawk Ridge Community Center and Aquatic during the week. Dad met a wonderful group of friends and they formed a “gym family”. I am so grateful for the love and support dad received from these amazing people.
Dad also had a group of neighbors that kept a close eye on him and I am grateful for their love and support as well. When I visited, he always wanted to know what was new with me, Brett or Rob and had I heard from Chris or the grandkids. He loved getting visits with them and especially from his granddog Roxy. His other favorite thing was to go outside and sit in the sun.
I spent Friday, May 26th taking Dad to an appointment and then to get his hair cut. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time. I dropped Dad off at Brookdale OP Assisted Living facility just in time for lunch. Dad loved the food they served.
We kissed, exchanged I love you’ s and I said “See you tomorrow “. He smiled and waved and I noticed that he looked great. I am grateful to the staff at Brookdale who looked after my dad and made a safe home for him. Thank goodness they were there for him on Saturday, May 27th when he took his last breath. Dad was 86 years young and never gave up living. Way to go Dad. Enjoy the sunshine.
I love you and I’ll see you tomorrow ❣️
