Jane A. LaGue died peacefully surrounded by her children at her home in Leawood, Kansas on April 3, 2024. Jane was born on November 1, 1935 to Henry and Helen Hodes, the youngest of their five children. She married Ben LaGue, the love of her life, on May 11, 1957. They met on a blind date and were married 61 years. They lovingly raised eight children: Lisa (Murphy), Jeannette (Kowaleski), Suzanne (Quigley), Helen (Murphy). John, Deirdre (Fisher), Megan (Maslak) and Brett. Jane was blessed with 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She grew up in Kansas City, the youngest of 5 children, and attended St. Teresa’s Academy and Maryville University. Her Catholic faith was a main part of her life from childhood through her last few days. Many years were spent at St. Agnes parish, where the family occupied the second pew every Sunday! She especially loved having Christmas Eve Mass in the living room of her home with her children and extended family. Life with eight children was noisy, often chaotic, and none of us would change a minute of it. Somehow she always managed to cook meals, and take care of her family, all while managing the office and books of LaGue Printing Inc.
Some of our favorite memories of mom are as simple as sitting in the kitchen and talking about whatever was going on in our lives at the end of the school day to the fun she created at the lake house. She loved spending time with her family - and we knew we were cherished.
As Jane and Ben became empty nesters, they took frequent trips to Florida. She loved walking the beach in the morning with her cup of coffee while looking for shells.
Jane had a beautiful, positive outlook on life. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family and friends. Everything revolved around service to others! Everyone who knew her was truly blessed. Her death is such a loss, but the way she lived her life remains in all of us.
Visitation April 7th from 4-6pm at Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, KS. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am, April 8th, at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, Leawood, KS.
