Virginia was born to John Harold Main and Viola May Ackerman Main on June 2, 1930. She had four brothers and one sister, Harold Junior , James Everett, Sally Bell, Henry Clay, and Frederick LeRoy is the youngest and only surviving sibling.
At the age of four Virginia’s family moved to Kansas City. She attended primary schools in Kansas City Kansas and went to Argentine High School.
Virginia met Bill Kimbrell at the age of fourteen in Garden City, Missouri, where she spent most of her summers and holidays. Bill and Virginia were married on November 2, 1946. That had two daughters Sandra Lee and Linda Sue, of whom they were really proud. They lived in Kansas City until they purchased acreage in rural Paola, Kansas. Bill retired from General Motors and they built a new brick home on that acreage . They lived in that home until they moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 1989 due to Bill’s health.
Bill joined the Mason’s and Virginia the Order of the Eastern Stars. Virginia received her 50 year certificate having joined in 1954. She held several offices through the years.
Virginia’s parents proceeded her death in 1971. Bill died July 4, 1993 at the age of 67.
She was blessed with two grandchildren, Lacey and Ryan Parker. They share many memories of going to the farm, jumping hay bales, picking strawberries and catching catfish out of grandpa’s pond. Virginia watched them mature in to adults.
Virginia had two great son’s in-law, Bruce Parker and Gene Salmans. She was also blessed with two wonderful people in her life, Herbert and Lucille Kimbrell, Bill’s younger brother and his now deceased wife. They saw her through some trying times, never failing to show up if she needed anything or just company.
She was a member of Valley View Methodist Church, spending many Sunday mornings serving as a greeter. Virginia enjoyed her many hours spent with the church quilting group and throughly enjoyed the the many friendships from the Sunday School Class.
Through the years, due to her brothers and sister she was blessed with many nieces and nephews. Her nieces Jeannie and Theresa Main were like two more daughters. Nephews, Randy and Bill McSparren were like the sons she never had.
A long life well lived, she and Bill never lost contact with friends and family.
Virginia passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Visitation will be 10:00 AM followed by the Funeral Services at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 4, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, MO. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to the Johnson County Humane Society.
