Reflections of Life
Alexander Kenneth Sebastian Barger Jr., aged 72, from Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, with his sisters, nephew Chris and best friend Dee at his bed sharing memories of great times shared by all.
He was born on November 24, 1952, to Alex and Estelle Regina Barger. Jr. was the second of four children. He is preceded in death by his parents; Alexander Kenneth and Estelle Regina Barger and his grandparents; Edward and Estelle LaSalle and Bud and Nettie Smotherman. He has always been referred to in the family and among close family friends as Jr.
Early life: Jr. grew up in Wyandotte County with his three siblings. He attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish school in KCK and St, Emma’s Military Academy in Powhattan, Virginia. He received all sacraments, and joined the Knights of St. Peter Claver, at Our Lady and St. Rose following in a family tradition. He initiated his professional career with the Housing Authority of Kansas City, Kansas during his teenage years, subsequently joining Sunshine Biscuit in Fairfax following his high school graduation. Subsequently, he was employed at Artex, where he met his wife, Deanna, he was employed there for 38 years and retired in 1994. His final professional position was with Thermo Fisher/Remel Laboratories in Lenexa. He retired from there in 2010, due to his health.
Friendships: He had long-term friendships with six individuals (Joe, Billy, Cletus, Emerson, Butch, and Dewy), four of whom passed away before him. Jr and Joe have been friends for 72 years, having known each other since birth. They spoke daily until illness made it difficult for Jr. to continue communications. Emerson and Jr. met at the housing authority where they worked in the summer. Their friendship lasted 48 years when Emerson passed away in 2014. His Dad (Alex Sr) had told Debbie (Emerson’s wife) and Dee when you marry one of them you marry the other. These 6 friends enjoyed life and enjoyed their friendship with one another. They loved to fish, hunt (never caught anything), playing cards, dominos and shooting fireworks. They loved to grill, cook and sell wolf tickets as to who could outdo the other one. During football season, their activities included grilling, playing cards, watching games, drinking, and narrating the game. His team was the San Francisco 49ers then the Chiefs.
Family: Jr. married Deeanna Fitzpatrick on July 23,1981 becoming the stepfather to Niki and Jon. The two of them were married for 16 years and then divorced. However, he remained a father figure in the lives of Niki and Jon. Jr and Dee remained solid friends until the day of his death, always there for each other.
Later life and legacy: Following his divorce, he contributed to raising a friend's son (Dion) and continued to provide guidance until he was too ill to do so anymore. Jr.'s life was marked by dedication to family, faith, and friendship until his passing. His family and close friends were central to his life, and he was known for his commitment to those he loved and or cared for. In recent days, we have considered Jr.'s life and observed that he did not speak negatively about others or act with hostility or vindictiveness. On occasions when he was treated unfairly or bullied, he responded without retaliation. He always tried to teach that way of life to his stepchildren and to Dion.
He is survived by his best friend: Deeanna Gary (KCK), sisters: Regina Singleton (Lenexa, Ks), Emma Barger-Ridley (Lenexa, Ks), his brother Gregory Barger (Pawnee, Ok), 2 nephews Christopher Camern (Merriam, Ks), Michael Barger (Lenexa, Ks), 3 nieces Alexis Ridley (Houston, Tx), Catherine Garmen Barger (Gladstone, Mo), Faith Barger (El Paseo, Tx), Stepdaughter Niki Fitzpatrick (Wichita Ks) and Stepson Jon Fitzpatrick (KCK), Dion Moore (Oklahoma City)

“God saw that he was getting weary, so He did what He knew best. He came and stood beside Him and whispered, come and rest. God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb.
He gently closed his loving eyes and whispered, “Peace Be Thine.”
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen
