Nov 13, 1951---Nov 14, 2025

Sherry Kay Diederich, 74, Roeland Park, Kansas, native of Lisbon, Iowa, passed on peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, at home surrounded by family and dressed in her favorite tie-dyed t-shirt. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. CT, on Friday, November 21, followed immediately by the Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. CT, at Queen of the Holy Rosary at 7023 W. 71st Street, Overland Park, KS 66204. The family requests no flowers and suggests memorial contributions to Meals on Wheels America.

Sherry was born November 13, 1951, in Lisbon, Iowa, to Roselee (Rose) Mary Nation and Orvin Kent Frink. The oldest of four children, Sherry began a lifetime of caregiving and love as the family moved from Lisbon to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and then to Leavenworth, Kansas in 1964. Upon graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1970, Sherry moved to Kansas City to attend St. Luke’s School of Nursing and commence a forty-plus year career for St. Luke’s Hospital, the University of Kansas Medical Center, and Grace Hospice. In 1975, she married Dr. Paul Gregory Diederich and began a family that found its home in Roeland Park, Kansas. In addition to her nursing career, Sherry became an avid student of Bowen Family Systems Theory and found deep purpose in studying and learning to understand the dynamics that shape relationships inside of families. She was a lifelong learner, loved to be near water (even learning to sail and surf later in life), and took great joy in causing playful trouble for her friends and family.

Sherry is preceded in death by her parents, nephew Daniel Eklund, sister-in-law Collette Huerter, and brothers-in-law Dean and Denny Diederich. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Paul, her children, Emily (Tim), Ben (Ruth), Matt (Ashley), Angie (Wesley), Sam (Lindsay), and John, her six grandchildren, Patrick, Max, Vivian, Marilyn, Annabelle, and Sullivan, her brother, Darryl, her sisters, Karen and Dinah, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry & I only wish we could have met Sherry. We have heard so many wonderful things about her from Wes & Angie. Hearing how this family gathered to help her on her transitional journey speaks a lot of how Sherry & Paul raised all of their children. Their values are deeply imbedded in them and really showed as Sherry started her journey. I’m sure she’s now smiling down on her family & hopefully realizing how much she meant to all of them. Blessings to all of you. ❤️

Sherry was one of my favorite parents. She was always moving super-fast around the school. She always spoke the truth and showed a good sense of humor. I had the pleasure of having some of her children in my classes. They were some of my favorite students ever. Peace will return. Mr. Agnew

I am so sad to hear of the loss of Sherry. I knew her early in her career at St. Luke's Hospital and a little later when she worked in the office with Paul. I will always think of her as young, full of energy, joy, and compassion. My deepest sympathy to Paul and everyone in the family.
