Sharon Marie Neuerburg, 77, of Mission, KS, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, January 7, 2026following a brief illness with heart complications. The Celebration of Life service will be at 9:00 am Friday, January 16th at Porter Funeral Homes and Crematory, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS, (913) 438-6444. Interment will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are sent to Isaac’s Dream (www.isaacsdream.com) in Sherry’s honor.
Sherry was born on October 2, 1948 in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Quinten and Leona Gnewuch. The family moved toLake Park, MN, and then Verona, ND while Sherry was still young, and they eventually made their way to Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Heelan High School in Sioux City in 1966. In 1971, while Sherry was living and working in Carroll, IA, she met her husband, Jim Neuerburg, and they married on September 11, 1971 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. They began their life together and started a family there. In 1975, they moved to Sioux City, IA. As they raised their two children, Sherry was a stay-at-home Mom and loved being able to do that. She was a volunteer at a Montessori school and St. Michael’s Catholic School. She served on the school board at St. Michael’s, and she led the children’s choir at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Sherry was also a cub scout leader, a t-ball coach for her daughter’s team, and served numerous roles as a volunteer at various churches.
Sherry went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Park University in Parkville, MO. She worked for over 15 years in the alcohol and drug addiction field, both as a counselor in private practice and directing a state-wide training programaffiliated with UMKC for mental health professionals in Missouri, focusing on alcohol and other drug addiction recovery programs. She finished out her 20 plus years at UMKC on staff with the English Department.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Quinten and Leona Gnewuch, her step-father, Dale O’Boyle, and her brothers Bill, Richard, Thomas, and twin brother Terry. Sherry is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jim Neuerburg, their two children and their spouses, Joe and Robyn Neuerburg, and Jon and Michelle Daugharthy; grandchildren Drew, Jenna, Emery, Lily, Ashton and her husband Ryan, Emma, and Will; great-grandchildren Timo and Zion; siblings Colleen Dunn and her husband Francis, Denny Gnewuch, and Deb Gnewuch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
