Judith A. Gorsky, 82, KCMO, formerly of Kansas City, KS passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Saint Luke’s Hospice House.  Funeral services will be on Friday, March 6 at St. Peter’s Cathedral, 416 N. 14th Street, KCK.  Visitation at 9:30 a.m. followed by funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place immediately after at Mt. Judith was born August 9, 1943, in Kansas City, KS the daughter of Alex and Anna (Holek) Gorsky.  She moved to the Brookside area of KCMO after retiring from teaching in 2005.  A 1961 graduate of Bishop Ward High School, Judith earned her BA in Speech (as well as minors in English and Education) from St. Mary College in Leavenworth, KS and, later, an MA in Education from Wichita State University.  Throughout her 40-year teaching career in Speech, Drama and English, Judith taught, supported and inspired many students at Bishop Ward High School, Bishop Hogan High School, St. Pius High School, Donnelly College, Rockhurst College and the KCMO public schools.

Her passion for teaching was evident in the classroom, at speech/debate events, in the plays and musicals she directed, and in the lasting gratitude expressed by students who thanked her for her support and guidance throughout her lifetime.  A devout Catholic, Judith attended Mass regularly and prayed daily.  She was a devoted daughter, sister, sister-in-law and aunt selflessly caring for family members whenever they needed assistance.  She loved her family, her Russian heritage, her collection of music boxes, traveling, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth and Sister Servants of Mary, chocolate, Dr. Pepper and KC Barbeque.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Helen and Catherine (Gorsky) Gorup and their respective spouses, Mike and Jim, brother Al Gorsky and spouse Loretta (Bartolac), nephew Gregory Gorup, and nieces Stephanie Gorup and Susan (Gorup) Biscanin.   Judith is survived by nieces and nephews Diane Hentges, Paul Gorup, James Gorsky, Jane Ann Gorsky, Therese Cosan, Alex Gorsky, Ivan Gorsky, Nick Gorsky and their families.

Ms. Gorsky and I butted heads because I was a bit of a cut up. However, her keen editing helped me hone my writing skills. When ly first article was published, when I was in law school, I sent her a copy! She taught honors literature ly senior and it was one of my favorite classes. She let us discuss all the cultural and social aspects without telling us what to think. She did challenge us to back up our statements with evidence and examples. RIP Ms. Gorsky

Judy was always soooo nice to me when I was younger! I had a crush on Greg early in grade school & she would kid me about this! I was in awe of her & she always asked me about him. Rest in Peace Judy.

I was a student of Ms. Gorsky's many moons ago at Bishop Ward High School. I could tell instantly, that she was two things. A teacher that was no nonsense, and she was also a who was there to help. I always wanted to impress her and it was important to me to do well in her class. I succeeded. She gave me an A every semester. Some of her teaching methods have become my teaching methods. I will teach you all that i can, and I don't do well with nonsense. Thank you Ms. Gorsky, may you have eternal peace and rest with our Lord.

I was saddened to hear about Judy’s death. She was my high school speech and drama teacher at bishop hogan high school in the late 60s. She was a wonderful teacher and supportive coach in speech and drama. She gave me confidence in public speaking which I would later need in my professional life. We kept in touch for many years up until her death. She was a caring person and dedicated teacher. She will e greatly missed.
