Betty A. Smith (90) passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2026. She was born on December 11, 1935 in Joplin, Missouri. Betty earned her Master of Arts degree from Pittsburg State University with a focus on music education. Her work life included computer programming and clerical work for Thermo-Dynamics, Inc. and teaching piano classes at JCCC. She enjoyed traveling and cooking and played the clarinet for many years in the Overland Park Orchestra.
Betty is survived by her husband, James E. Smith, with whom she shared 69 wonderful years of marriage; her son, J. Vincent Smith; her daughter, Gretchen Granberg; her son-in-law, Jeff Granberg; and her grandson, Parker Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore (Ted) and Essie (Mae) Cross; her mother- and father-in-law, Erwin and Hazel Smith; her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Joseph Kurz; her son-in-law, David Saale; and her beloved daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Saale.
A private graveside service will be held in Weir, Kansas.
