Harold Alvin Ehlert, 84, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at St. Luke’s South Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife, Pat, and sons, Jeffrey and Todd.
He will always be loved and remembered.
Harold was born on June 30, 1941, in Winchester, Illinois, the son of Hugo and Rena Ehlert. He was proud to have grown up on a farm, where he developed a strong work ethic through farming and raising sheep.
He graduated from Winchester High School, where he participated in sports, other activities such as band and FFA, and went on to attend Western Illinois University, earning a degree in Industrial Technology and Education in 1963. During his junior year, he met the love of his life, Pat. They were married in 1963 and celebrated 63 years of marriage this year.
Harold began his career teaching Industrial Arts for five years in the Crete-Monee School District while living in Park Forest, Illinois. In 1968, he transitioned to a second career, moving to Keokuk, Iowa, where he worked as an Operations Manager for Sheller-Globe Manufacturing for 25 years.
From 1995 to 2008, Harold took on a new challenge helping to “turn companies around,” which led him to live in Grapevine, Texas; Evansville, Indiana; and ultimately Overland Park, Kansas, where he retired in 2008 at the age of 67.
Never one to slow down, Harold began a third career in real estate, working with Prudential and Better Homes Realty until 2019, when his health began to decline.
Throughout his life, Harold’s greatest focus was his family. He served as a Cubmaster and Pack Leader when his sons were in elementary school and will be remembered as a loving, devoted, and humble husband, father, and grandfather.
Harold was a dedicated member of Atonement Lutheran Church, serving as an usher for 19 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pat; his sons, Jeffrey (Kristy) and Todd (Rachel); his four grandchildren, David, Eddie, Megan, and Will; his sisters, Ruth and Berneda; his brother, Carl; and seven nieces.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am followed by an 11:00 am Memorial Service on Wednesday, June 24th at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS. The family suggests memorial contribution to the Atonement Lutheran Church.
