Janice H. Wandishin, recently of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 20, after choosing to discontinue treatment for her cancer and enter hospice care.  It was the ultimate act in her journey to learn to advocate for herself.  

Janice made an extra early appearance February 25, 1948, whereupon, according to family legend, her father, Orrin, rescued her from a dirty linen basket and whisked her up to the NICU, for which her children and grandchildren are extremely grateful. She grew up in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and graduated from Bishop Stang High School in 1966. Janice was a lifelong lover of books and hater of geometry. 

Janice met the love of her life, Thomas John Wandishin, at a college mixer while a student at Trinity College in Washington, D.C.  They married on June 5, 1969 following Tom's graduation from the United States Naval Academy.  Together, they had four children and fourteen grandchildren, lived in six states, traveled to nine countries, and were enjoying their 55th year of marriage at the time of Tom's passing. She was an ultimate caregiver who was known on occasion to clean up a dish that was still in use. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, generous acts of service, and pinwheel cookies. 

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Wandishin, her granddaughter Delaney Mae Anast, and her parents, Orrin Hall and Margaret Johnson.  She is survived by her children Jeff and Susan, Matt and Ann, Chris and Andrea, Jen and Jason Anast, and Rodney Garrison; her grandchildren Jamie, Zoe, Joseph, Kyle, Sara, Kaleb, Aidan, Gretchen, Noelle, Vivian, Biira, Irene, and Brynna; her sister Margery Hall; and her best friend of too many years to count, Susan (Kim) Hutchings.  

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Curé of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, Janice requested that donations be made to the Dear Jack Foundation or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
