Charles J. Miller, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026.
Born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, Charlie was the son of Joseph and Marie Miller. He later moved his family to Bettendorf, Iowa, where he built a life centered around his family and his career as a salesman. Charlie worked for American Greetings Company for more than 30 years before retiring.
After retirement, Charlie and his beloved wife, Norma, moved to Florida, where they enjoyed many happy years together in the sunshine. They spent their days jogging, playing golf, and enjoying picnics on the beach, creating memories they would cherish for years to come.
In his later years, Charlie and Norma moved to Kansas to be near their grandkids. He continued to find joy in the things he loved, especially playing golf and fantasy football. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the many memories they created together.
Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Norma; his eldest son, Daniel (Cathie) Miller; his son, Curtis (Kelly); his son, Mitchell; and his daughter, Elizabeth (Sam) Whitehead. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by his sister, Joann Huseman.
Those who knew Charlie will remember his warmth, laughter, generous spirit, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa on October 6th at 11:00 AM, followed by a private burial service at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Happy’s Place following the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that, if desired, donations be made to the KU Endowment for Alzheimer’s Disease Research organization in Charles’s memory.
Charlie leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who will carry his love with them always.
