Lina was married to her beloved husband, Manuel A. Martins, for 53 years and he survives. Also surviving are her daughter Sydney (Charlie), son Richard, and two of the greatest joys of her life grandsons Gus and Henry, as well as numerous other relatives. She is also remembered lovingly by the DeVolder and Volante families, all of whom she considered family and loved dearly.
Lina grew up in Portugal and moved to the United States in 1973. She spent many years working at General Motors, first in Westchester County, New York before transferring to the Kansas City area in 1995. Little did she realize at the time how much she would grow to love the Midwest. Throughout her life, she developed many close friendships while maintaining great pride in her Portuguese heritage. In particular she loved talking about Portugal and sharing the language (and food!) with her grandsons.
She always demonstrated wonderful affection and warmth to those who knew her. Lina was also an amazing cook and took extra effort to prepare meals that made holidays extra special. She was also a talented seamstress who loved to sew and make things for her friends and loved ones. But her greatest joy was always her family, and she never hesitated to share a smile, a tear, or a beijo with those she loved. Her laugh was infectious and brightened everyone’s day. Her spirit and loving nature will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
